KUHN

HOUSE

The Kuhn House is a new construction built on a very narrow plot. The challenge was to design a building with interior and exterior spaces of good proportions, respecting the limitations of current regulations and enhancing the climatic aspect of the house. The different spaces are arranged between three thick load-bearing walls oriented east-west. In winter their high thermal-mass captures and stores heat from the sun, radiating it back to the interior, whilst in summer they thermally insulate to prevent overheating.  To maintain privacy with the neighbouring plot and protect from cold winds, the wall to the north is without openings. The light glass walls to the east and west, enable the user control of air circulation to favour natural ventilation in summer and allow light to enter. Also, on the first floor the large southern windows facing the terrace, allow the light to reach the ground floor through a combination of interior glass walls.
